Citizens for Fauquier County (CFFC) Play Ping Pong with your Property Rights

Letter to the Editor:

CFFC makes the following statement on their website:

“CFFC  is a non-profit, non-partisan organization whose mission is to preserve the natural, historic and agricultural resources of Fauquier County and to preserve the County’s unique quality of life through education and leadership.”

Is PEC hiding behind the veil of CFFC?  The CFFC website further states that it seeks membership “to contribute to local conservation efforts. Our committees are always in need of volunteers to maintain CFFC’s strong presence in our community as we keep pace with the ever-increasing pressures that threaten Fauquier County.”  You might be wondering what kinds of pressures are “threatening” Fauquier County that would require such zealous activism?  The answer is activities on private property that interrupts the “view shed” and especially on small family farms and wineries.

The following is also posted on CFFC’s website and sounds all too much like a “BIG BROTHER MANIFESTO”.  CFFC seeks to:

- To monitor develop submissions to County offices to identify submissions requiring  rezonings, waivers, special permits, or special exceptions. (Translation – to spy on private citizens private submissions on private property to determine those that CFFC wants to target)

- Help research identified submissions with consequential impacts to the County in general, or local neighborhoods, and develop comments to the appropriate decision body and for publication on our web site and in the Monitor. (Translation: NIMBY harassment of neighbors resulting in activism to take away a citizen’s private property rights)

- Monitor and review proposed land use associated ordinances for negative or “un-intended consequences” relative to implementing the County’s Comprehensive Plan. (Translation: Make up a bunch of lalaland make believe ferry dust to get what CFFC wants)

- Identify and research regional and national trends for development concepts and practices which, if adopted by Fauquier County, would enhance the preservation of natural, historic, and agricultural resources within Fauquier County and protect the County’s unique way of life.

CFFC appears to play shark like ping pong with your property rights. CFFC Vice President Les Cheek sent an urgent call to action on January 25, 2013.  What was the terrifying threat against Fauquier?  The answer according to Cheek is that “ H.B. 1430 would nullify any County ordinance “directed at persons, property or activity” on RA-zoned land that “seeks to restrict the free exercise of … the right of… peaceable assembly….” Hmmmmm… has CFFC ever heard of the Constitution?

Cheek isn’t so Cheeky after all as in the following statement “My purpose in writing this overlong letter is to suggest to you that your expression of revulsion at terrifying departures from established public policy will make a difference in the outcome of the General Assembly’s consideration of H.B. 1430.”

The only thing terrifying is that CFFC even exists to deprive citizens of life, liberty , PROPERTY rights and the pursuit of happiness.  Beware of CFFC’s involvement in establishing county wide laws that govern your property rights, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Stay tuned for further “expressions of revulsion” over CFFC’s disturbing agenda including CFFC’s drafting of the most controversial Wine Ordinance in the history of Virginia.  The CFFC winery ordinance has resulted in around 14 lawsuits against the County.   Even the Secretary of Agriculture had to intervene to tell Fauquier that the winery ordinance was unlawful.   CFFC’s irrational demands have cost Fauquier citizens money, time, hardship and suffering.
