Mike Hawkins of Catlett apparently had no intention of running for Chairman of the Fauquier County Republican Committee (FCRC).
His email to us was intended to call attention to the fact that the FCRC has been very exclusive for decades, and he told Fauquier Free Citizen that the FCRC did indeed reject his membership and send his check back with a “Thanks but no thanks” reply.
He applauds the Republican Party of Virginia for opening the membership of the FCRC to three times what it has been for decades saying, “It’s about time all Republicans are allowed to join.”
In related news, long time Fauquier resident Peter Popovich announced his candidacy to those attending the Fauquier Cornerstone Committee presentation on the evening of March 17th at Stoneridge Events Center in Warrenton.
He was introduced by Cameron Jones who ran for Chairman in 2014, and was the catalyst for this year’s expansion of the FCRC membership.
Mr. Popovich addressed a crowd of over 100 Fauquier Republicans, who came to learn how they could become involved in an expanded Fauquier Republican committee, and how their grassroots involvement can help reshape the State and National Party, as well as make Fauquier a better place to live, work, and raise their families. Mr. Popovich works as an engineer for a local defense contractor, and has lived in Fauquier County for 29 years.
The election of Fauquier leaders and committee members will take place on April 2nd.
The Fauquier GOP website says, “This election shall be held on the 2nd day of April 2016 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and conducted concurrently at two locations: the Warrenton Community Center, 430 E Shirley Ave, Warrenton, VA 20186 (or its alternate site); and the Remington Lions Club 11326 James Madison Hwy, Bealeton, VA 22712 (or its alternate site).”
