An acquaintance in the county forwarded me a letter today “urging” myself, my friends and relatives to vote for Scott Russell. I’m sure others of you may have seen this or something similar. What struck me as odd is the reason behind supporting Mr. Russell. Apparently it is not to strengthen the Republican Party in Fauquier County or to elect someone with solid Conservative principles, but to ensure Fauquier does not end up like Loudon County.
Apparently this individual also has a problem with the county Republican Party selecting, or in her words, controlling who the Republican candidates would be when running for the Board of Supervisors. Hmmm, isn’t this how the party system works? Why would I expect or even allow the Democrats to select my party’s nominees for an election?
What is equally interesting is her advertising that “any registered voter in Virginia, regardless of party affiliation, can vote in this canvas”. While not an inaccurate statement, it tells me that she is willing to water down the electorate with non-Republicans to push her own agenda in the county. I thought this is supposed to be a canvas to elect individuals for the County “Republican” Committee. Why actively encourage the solicitation of votes from non-Republicans?
After reading the article “Mr. Russell Was Right – It Is an Emergency!” I found out there are At-Large candidates on Mr. Russell’s team who supported candidates running against Republicans. Today I receive a letter from one of Mr. Russell’s supporters encouraging non-Republicans to get out and vote for him. I say, “NO”. I will not vote for Mr. Russell; nor will I encourage anyone else to.
I’m looking for a leader with integrity. Someone who knows this county and espouses conservatism. On Saturday, 22 March, I will vote for Cameron Jones.
