Sore Losers

Virginia SB 51 was signed into law, limiting the authority of counties to require permits for farmers to engage in farm sales and activity.

Farmers, merchants and citizens of Fauquier County should express their gratitude to Martha Boneta, the tireless organic farmer with some 200 rescued farm animals who took on the overbearing Lords of Fauquier County.

The county’s dishonest lobbying against her personally and her cause was financed by the taxpayers of Fauquier.  Boneta, on the other hand, built an army of grassroots supporters relying on the goodness of her cause, the sincerity of her beliefs, and the promise that freedom helps create prosperity for more people than any government program.

Boneta endured intimidation and false witness against her, yet she remained cheerful.

Her two-year fight continues in court.  We still need a remedies law so that lawbreaking bureaucrats face consequences for their willfull bad acts.  And, we still need a fix to the Virginia Code that allows local government to violate due process rights of property owners.

But this was a victory against government’s abusing zoning power to trespass on our property rights.  And, it exposed how local government can be just as ugly as any larger state or federal bureaucracy.

In step nameless sore losers, a tiny but truly distasteful element or strain of busybodies in Fauquier County, who are rumored to have been circulating a petition — not to fire zoning administrator Kim Johnson who cited Martha for having a birthday party; not to bounce corrupt county supervisors — but to have Martha’s farm shut down.

We say, folks, get a life.

These people aren’t merely sore losers.  They are the remnants of the time when localities could target individuals for abusive and discriminatory treatment by trespassing on their property rights.  They are a handful of despots who use local government to violate other people’s rights.

They and their abettors in county government are the reason why the majority of us who support local government also know that local government can be used for the wrong and even unlawful ends.  They are the reason why SB 51 passed.

Meanwhile, Martha Boneta is being celebrated as a hero across the Commonwealth and even across the country.  The sore losers look even more petty, insignificant and mean-spirited.

Virginia Right created this music video celebrating Martha’s victory.  Listen and enjoy.

I just think its funny that y’all are calling us sore losers, when really its you guys that are. Who just lost the election and is now calling for a redo? Just accept the fact that nobody wants lying tea partiers having the kind of power where they can pick who runs for what. Y’all would be the ultimate puppet masters. And nobody wants that.

Oh Pleeeease “Mr. Disgusted by the Author”. Here are the facts: Lee Sherbyn is nothing more than a political hack and not a very bright one at that and yes, a petition was circulated on Main Street in Marshall less than two weeks ago. A minion ( administrative assistant) to the largest landowner in Fauquiet County went door to door through the Marshall bussiness community soliciting signatures to remove Mrs. Boneta’s business from the community. The only thing circumspect here is who the authors are: possibly P.E.C., the County B o S, or the proposed ” new” Fauquier GOP loaded with limosene liberal recruits…one in the same. The facts: the petition was circulated, Sherbyn is a crybaby, and our elected officials are corrupt. My suggestion to you Mr. Disgusted is a course in free thinking.

I’d like to see proof of this “petition” supposedly being circulated. Rumors do not constitute proof and any news organization with the tiniest bit of credibility would not publish something they themselves describe as a “rumor”. Besides it does not even make sense. You can not shut someone’s business down with a petition like that. You could get a couple thousand signatures saying we should kick all the McDonalds out of Fauquier County but that won’t make it happen.

To those who have known Martha and know the truth, I extend an invitation to come celebrate, not chastise and malign, with us on St. Patty’s Day the signing of SB51 and her birthday! DO NOT WORRY it is not in her barn. I am sick of all the spite, let us show some real human spirit of love for mankind and encourage the 1 in 10,000 who stand up for all those who are persecuted. Blogs bring out the worse gutless, people. Facebook snooping is what was used to find something wrong going on with Martha from the start. People need to get a life and mind their own business. Email me at for invite.

Mark – your part in this was key. In addition to the video you linked I have also had requests for an mp3 version. That is free an available here

And if anyone would like to pay for the mp3, please send something to Martha instead. Or buy some of her fresh and delicious product. I got a dozen eggs out of the deal and I’m good.

Martha Boneta is a shining beacon of hope in the nightmarish political landscape that is Fauquier County. I wouldn’t be at all surprised If this story is true. There are busybodies out there looking to rain on any parade that doesn’t belong to them. Lee Sherbyn will say anything that fits his narrative. That’s what politicians do. Valid or not the real story here is Martha’s persistence in a fight against an oppressive county that has nothing better to do than harass farmers.

Can you confirm if petitions are circulating? Seems pretty irresponsible to write something like that if you cannot back it up. Why incite people with false information or 2nd or 3rd hand rumors? Lee Sherbyn is right about you. You twist things to fit into a preferred narrative. Shame on you. You are no different than those you claim to be fighting against.
